To Date:

I am a lens-based artist (with a low key pickle addiction) based in Queens, NY.

I am naturally drawn to both still and moving images to convey my curiosity about pop culture, politics, and the ongoing evolution of my identity as a Chinese Jewish American woman.  At the end of the day, I can only hope my work continues to question history and social constructs, and presents transparency, education, and ongoing conversation.

My work has been featured in Wonderful World of Dance, Dance Magazine, Triskelion Arts, The Tank Theater, Dixon Place Performing Arts Theater, Lincoln Center, and Portland Dance Film Fest.

Warmly,
Emma Colton

"The Perfect Smile" is a piece I choreographed to address the inequalities found in America's oral healthcare system known as the silent epidemic. Inspired by the book "Teeth" written by Mary Otto.
